Day Ten: 09 June 2024

Siem Reap

This morning, we will visit Angkor International hospital.

Over two decades ago, esteemed Japanese photographer Kenro Izu made his way to Siem Reap with the intention of capturing the temples of Angkor through his lens. However, what he encountered – the prevailing post-war poverty and the dire state of healthcare – left a profound impact on him. This encounter spurred him to make a commitment: to establish a hospital that would ensure every child’s access to essential healthcare.

In the present day, the proficient Cambodian medical team at Angkor Hospital for Children stands at the forefront of providing healthcare that is seldom available within the country. Their endeavours encompass a range of pioneering medical services, including one of the nation’s most advanced Paediatric Intensive Care Units. It is an honour for us to receive an exclusive opportunity to gain insights into the workings of this institution through a guided tour led by Deputy Hospital Director Dr. Ngeth Pises.

Tonight as we say farewell, we will enjoy a 7-course degustation dinner at the famous Lum Orng restaurant.
