In 1974 Colleen thought she would become a nurse for a little while. Forty-five years later she finds herself working in Nursing education.
During those years she became increasingly drawn back to psychiatry, working with people who were experiencing life very differently and who were at risk of ever-increasing marginalisation.
For many years she had the privilege and challenge of working especially with people diagnosed with personality disorders and trauma-induced conditions. She maintains a lasting appreciation and respect for their journey and their resilience.
Colleen has worked in Public and Private Hospitals, Community settings, and Nursing Education.
Colleen completed her Psychiatric training first, then her General and Obstetric training in the last cohort of hospital-trained nurses in Auckland. She has a BA Humanities and a Grad Certificate in Adult Education.

After this part of our journey, we’ll shift our attention to The Grand Theatre, where Saint Paul once delivered his sermons. What’s truly fascinating is that during ancient times, this theatre held the impressive distinction of being the largest in Asia Minor, with a seating capacity of up to 24,000 spectators.

Today, our journey takes us to Pamukkale, a place whose name translates to “Cotton Castle” in English. In times gone by, it was known as Hierapolis and was renowned for its therapeutic thermal and mineral baths, as well as its stunning, snow-white “petrified waterfalls.”
Our exploration of Pamukkale will include a visit to Salt Lake and Hierapolis. Here, we’ll encounter the remarkably well-preserved Necropolis, the bustling main street, the imposing gates, the soothing thermal baths, the enigmatic Devil’s Hole, and the breathtaking Masterpiece Theater.
Pamukkale’s terraces are crafted from travertine, a sedimentary rock formed by the mineral-rich waters from the hot springs. This area boasts 17 hot springs, with temperatures ranging from 35°C to 100°C. The water emerges from the springs and travels an impressive 320 meters (1,050 ft.) to the top of the travertine terraces, where it deposits calcium carbonate along a section measuring 60 to 70 meters in length, covering an expansive area of 240 to 300 meters.
After our exploration, we’ll return to the hotel, undoubtedly with unforgettable memories of this natural wonder.
This morning we will travel back to Istanbul to prepare for our departure.

“Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system and work in difficult environments that can take advantage of their commitment to ensuring the best possible care is delivered. To continue to meet professional and community expectations Nurses and Midwives need to acknowledge their unique contribution to health care delivery and assert their collective strength to safeguard the community and ensure their ongoing professional needs are recognised and met.
Healthcare should be delivered by competent, knowledgeable individuals to ensure the best possible experience for the recipient of that care. Nursing is a fabulous profession. The knowledge and skill of the individual Nurse will have the greatest influence on the happiness and health outcomes of each and every client”.
