In this Conference, we are going to explore the significance of advanced respiratory assessment by the Registered Nurse /Paramedic.

We will examine the chest landmarks and demonstrate the auscultation technique. The general respiratory assessment of a deteriorating patient with respiratory compromise will be explained.

We will also explore a variety of uncommon respiratory disorders which many of which are life-threatening.

Chest auscultation, interpretation of chest x-rays and interpretation of arterial blood gases will be explained in an easy to follow format with clinical hints and scenarios.

The second focus of the conference will be aimed at empowering all nurses to perform an expert clinical assessment of a patient deteriorating with cardiac disorders.

Two vital subjects will be addressed at length, interpretation of 12 lead ECG’s and life-threatening Long QT interval syndrome – with time allowed for exercises and workbooks. Cardiac auscultation will be demonstrated and the link to deterioration and scenarios will be explained.

“The importance of expert nurses being able to interpret deterioration in ABG samples not only in the  critical care and ED but also the ward cannot be underestimated.”
