What this Conference is About
When we hear the words ‘aged care’, many of us picture a nursing home. Yet only around four per cent of older Australians actually live in residential aged care. The other ninety-six per cent are the people we see every day in emergency departments, medical wards, operating theatres, oncology units, renal services, general practice, rehabilitation, community nursing and outpatient clinics.
This conference isn’t about residential aged care. It’s about the people who are quietly reshaping every part of our healthcare system.
Australia is experiencing one of the most significant demographic shifts in its history. People are living longer than previous generations, often with multiple chronic conditions, greater functional complexity and higher expectations of the healthcare system. At the same time, advances in technology, artificial intelligence, personalised medicine and new models of care are transforming how health services are delivered. Together, these changes are reshaping nursing practice across every clinical setting.
Nurses working in emergency departments, primary care, acute care, perioperative services, mental health, rehabilitation, community nursing and specialist services all provide care to older adults with increasingly complex health needs. Understanding the physiological, psychological, social and technological influences on ageing has become an essential component of contemporary nursing practice.
This conference explores the changing face of ageing through a future-focused lens. Participants will examine the impact of population ageing on healthcare delivery, challenge ageist assumptions, explore contemporary approaches to chronic disease management, frailty, medication safety and cognitive health, and consider how consumer expectations are influencing person-centred care. Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, remote monitoring and digital health, will also be explored alongside new models of care that support independence, healthy ageing and ageing in place.
Importantly, this conference asks participants to look beyond today’s healthcare system and consider what nursing may look like in the decades ahead. As science, technology and society continue to evolve, nurses will play a central role in ensuring that care remains evidence-based, compassionate and responsive to the needs, values and expectations of future generations of older Australians.

Sue Walker
RN, BN, BN (ADMIN), MPHC, MACN, Specialist Nurse Educator
Sue is an Australian nurse educator, conference director and CPD specialist with extensive experience in clinical practice, leadership, education and public health. She is the Director and Co-Founder of Nurses for Nurses and a key contributor to Nursing CPD, where she helps deliver evidence-based education and professional development programs for nurses and midwives across Australia and internationally.
Sue holds qualifications in nursing, health administration and public health, along with postgraduate studies in gerontology, psychiatry of ageing, chemotherapy administration and training and assessment. Her career has included frontline nursing, senior management and education leadership.
At the heart of her work is a simple belief: nurses and midwives are not just the backbone of healthcare, they are critical decision-makers whose knowledge, judgement and advocacy directly influence patient outcomes and system safety. Sue’s goal is to ensure nurses and midwives are supported and professionally empowered to meet the growing complexity of modern healthcare while sustaining long, fulfilling careers.

The Conference is delivered in two formats, reflecting the principles of adult learning. Live presentations take place in the Conference Room, supported by an online library that opens prior to the Conference commencement. The library is an essential component of the overall Conference program.
The library contains Conference material supplied by the presenter(s), which may include:
- Research documents
- Links to external information
- Recorded Conference presentations
The research documents and recorded presentations form part of your Continuing Professional Development activities. These materials are made available before the Conference begins, allowing you to start your learning early.
If you prefer not to complete these activities beforehand, the library remains open for two weeks following the Conference. You may also choose to engage with the library content during the Conference itself, though you will need to purchase the ship’s internet package.

What is a non-practising registration?
We’ve realised that many past customers still want to travel with us. We have created a customer classification called Non-Practising Nurse.
It is for Retired Nurses who want to travel with our group but no longer need CPD hours. They like to travel with like-minded people, people who get them because they have had similar experiences, and there is a shared connection that creates friendships quickly. Also, travelling as part of a group provides an extra level of support and safety.
The non-practicing registration is only available for our cruise conferences, as the study tours are all-inclusive.
Please Note: Conference registration does not include accommodation or travel costs.

How Do I dress on a cruise?
Most cruise lines offer a casual atmosphere onboard. Casual attire is the norm during the day, and there is no formal dress code at night. However, many passengers choose to change into something slightly less casual for dinner.
At least once per sailing, during which passengers are encouraged to dress up. While you rarely see tuxedos or evening gowns, suits and cocktail dresses are quite common.
Additionally, ships usually host several themed nights, such as White Parties, '70s, or '80s Night, Hawaiian or even Mexican during each sailing. It’s a good idea to bring along a few themed items.
NB: Closer to your sail date you will be able to see what the exact theme nights are being held via your cruise companies app.

Can I Bring the Family?
Because a cruise is such a fabulous holiday experience, your family and friends can join you on your CPD Travel adventure.
Whilst you are attending lectures there are heaps of activities to keep them busy including an exceptional kid’s club program.
Simply talk to the Team at Education at Sea, they can organise all your and your travelling companion’s travel arrangements.
What if I need kid-free time?
If you want to mix only with adults, most ships have an area with entry only available to people over the age of 18..
Guests will jump for joy upon discovering this private retreat where they can connect with the ocean – and disconnect from everything else.
Can you give me some tips on Cruising?
We sure can……whether you are a seasoned cruiser or this is your first time onboard a cruise ship our Ultimate Guide to Cruising is sure to have some useful tips and advice to ensure you have a fantastic time on this Travel CPD adventure.
Can you organise for me to share a room with someone?
